A budget-busting Prix Fixe menu for November

The dark days really are here – this Sunday the clocks change and sunset will be grimly early… followed all too soon by the budget on Tuesday!!

All the more reason then to let us alleviate a little of the gloom with a fantastic menu for this weekend, our first ever Prix Fixe Menu for every weekday lunch in November, Workshops, an Art Exhibition and a scintillating Gastrophysics Supper Club before the month’s end.

For this weekend, we have fresh Spicy Tuscan Fennel Sausages, Home Smoked Bacon, Pickled Sardines. Wild Rabbit, Venison Chilli Con Carne and, of course, our 18 hour Roast Saddleback Shoulder on Sunday.

Whatever else the Chancellor might announce on Wednesday, it seems unlikely that tax cuts will be part of her programme! Let us help ease the burden of any tax rises with our budget-busting set price menu on Weekday lunches from Wednesday till the end of November. Our Prix Fixe will offer 2 courses for £20 or 3 courses for £25 from next Wednesday and then throughout November.

Further into the month we will be holding another Fermentation Workshop – join us on the morning of Saturday November 16th for a deep dive into the theory and practice of fermentation – learn how to make fail-safe Krauts and Kimchis brimming with health giving probiotics and finish the session with a lunch in the Old Shop. The first workshop in September sold out quickly so book your tickets here.

The other regularly sold out event this year has been the Sip and Paint evenings hosted by our summer Artist in Residence Stacey Gledhill – the next evening on 22nd November is selling quickly but there are still a few places available by clicking here.

Whether or not wielding oil and a brush is your thing, you are all welcome to join us for a glass of fizz and a nibble or two on Thursday 21st from 6-8pm for the opening of Stacey’s exhibition “Cornucopia”. The exhibition will showcase new works inspired by her residency at Worton during the summer.

Finally, I am delighted that my brother, the “Mad Professor” Charles Spence has agreed to host another Gastrophysics Supper Club on 29th November. For those who have missed his previous events, this should be an entertaining evening of experiments and playfulness as the Head of Oxford’s Cross-Modal Institute and sometime collaborator with Modernist Chefs such as Heston Blumenthal, Ferran Adria and Kitchen Theory’s Josef Youssef lets you in to some of their secrets. As this evening coincides with the Thanksgiving Weekend, expect a menu that features Turkey, Pumpkin etc. Tickets are available by clicking here.

Lots of ideas then for lightening the mood over the next, and perhaps darkest month of the year. Join us at one or more of these events and let us all face the darkness with good cheer!
