All about these long sunny evenings …

So mid-summer has come and gone. The sun has arrived – at least for a period! The weather is warm, the flowers are beautiful, the evenings are long and sultry. The next two months are the perfect time to visit the farm and we are putting together an appealing roster of events to make the prospect irresistible – we hope!

First up we are firing on all cylinders again for evening service. We will remain open through to 10pm every Friday and Saturday throughout the summer. You can join us for Aperitivos from 4pm onwards – think delicious, chilled bubbly, one of our botanical cocktails or an Aperol Spritz perhaps. There really is nowhere prettier to take a glass than sitting in one of our outdoor “rooms” among the flowers and herbs as the sun heads west. So cocktails and savoury nibbles in the late afternoon followed by dinner in the glasshouse or in the garden. Our usual delicious menu but served at a more leisurely pace through to dusk…

Our evenings will then be enlivened by a series of Supper Clubs. First up on 5th July we have an evening of fire cookery as we launch our new Barbecue Pit.

Smoke and Fire on 5th July will be a dinner where each off the 5 courses comprises food cooked with fire and smoke – the centrepiece, of course, will be one our pigs – smoked whole over charcoal for 30 hours! The evening will be hosted by my brother, Professor Charles Spence, who will introduce the dishes and talk to the primaeval aspects of fire cookery as well as the nutritional and gustatory pleasures. The full menu and tickets for this special evening are available by clicking here

The Barbecue Pit is the most perfect form of whole hog cookery – slow smoking over our own charcoal means we have chemical free wood and pork coming together deliciously. We will be running Barbecue days and evenings throughout the summer – look out for the notices! This is also something that is available as the centrepiece for private functions and can be scaled from 20 people upwards as a feasting banquet – whether you are celebrating a Special Birthday, a Family Reunion or a Wedding Breakfast the glasshouse and orchard tables are available for a really special celebration. If you have an event coming up, do email me here to discuss the details whether you fancy the Whole Pig, a Wood Roast Lamb, or indeed some fabulous wood roast Vegetables from the Garden.

A warm, balmy week – we hope! Perfect weather to visit the farm shop, to dine or perhaps for a sparkling cocktail. Whichever option you choose, we look forward to welcoming you.
