At last it’s returned to the menu – the upside down apple pie which was first, perhaps accidentally, produced by the Tatin sisters at their family Hotel in the Loire. Whatever the truth of this creation myth, the Tarte Tatin is a perfect combination of delicate puff pastry, our fabulously ripe apples and burnished caramel. Those who came to the Supper Club last Friday know that Toffee Apples, also a combination of apples and caramel, may be tasty but can be a severe dental challenge, even for the young! Trust the French to take the beautiful combination of buttery caramel and sharp apples and create a dish with all the flavour and none of the risk!
Also back on the menu after a couple of weeks away are the Spicy Tuscan Fennel Sausages served with Coco beans in a tomato sauce. So popular that we keep selling out, we will also have some fresh sausages for sale in the shop this weekend.
For anyone who missed the Michaelmas Goose Supper Club last week, we have just published details of our next event – The`Hunters Moon Supper Club on Friday 18th October. This full moon, immediately following September’s Harvest moon, was named for the skills of hunters who could more readily track game in the bare fields and hedgerows of Autumn. Our evening will therefore be a celebration of game and wild foraged food so the menu may vary depending on what is available that week. Our current plan is to serve Wild Rabbit, Foraged Mushroom Soup, Roe Deer Wellington and Damson Pavolva. If you would like to join us, click here.
We look forward to welcoming you to our restaurant over the coming days.
