All about Dahlias this week …

Always the last hurrah of summer here at the farm, the Dahlias are now in full, glorious bloom.  Of course, there is also stunning prairie planting in the long borders but nothing quite matches the indecent splendour of the Dahlias!   The cutting garden is getting into its stride as the weather cools a little and we have some rain – its been too hot and dry to perfectly suit the Dahlias but they should now start to give of their best…

Even more flowers for this weekend as we have the launch show for our latest Artist in Residence – Robin Danely.  A sometime Californian who has exhibited in San Fransisco, Kyoto and London, Robin is now a firm fixture in the Oxford art scene.  We are delighted she has accepted the role of Artist in Residence at Worton where she will be leading art workshops and painting new works for the next couple of months.  First up, she is hosting a launch show from 6-8pm tomorrow evening (28th August) – do come along to say hello, share a glass (or two!) of Cava and view her exciting, floral still lifes.

Also this week we have Arthur Parkinson’s latest Dahlia Workshop on Friday morning and, although the event itself is now sold out, you are welcome to visit for a walk round the gardens and to buy some of the abundance of Dahlias for sale in the shop

A new dish on the menu to celebrate our ducks and in honour of a new, friend of the farm, perhaps the most famous recipe writer in the country, Simon Hopkinson, is his Duck Liver Pate which we will serve with Borodinsky Toasts and Pickled Cherries.  Otherwise, more delicious Spicy Tuscan Fennel Sausages with Borlotti Beans, Oven Roast Plaice with Agretti and Orkney Scallops with Confit Elephant Garlic.

On an administrtive note, we are closed across the whole farm for the next few Saturdays.  We have private hires of the whole farm on 30th August, 6th, 13th and 20th Sept – we will of course be open the rest of each week and very keen to welcome you for Brunch, Lunch, Supper or, indeed, to shop on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday.
