So much wonderful produce fresh from the soil this week. Salads and Herbs in abundance, Baby Carrots and Beetroot, the geometric splendour of Romanesco Caulifowers and the otherworldly, space-ship like Kohl Rabi plus many, many other vegetables. On the sweet side, we have sadly finished picking Rhubarb for another year but are delighted to replace it with our first outdoor Strawberries – for sale in the shop and in the restaurant where they decorate our signature Pavlova.
On the wild side, we have just finished processing our first pick of Elderflowers – you may have noticed in the hedgerows but this looks like being an exceptional year for Elder – late perhaps but generous and divinely scented. In the shop you could buy a bottle of our Elderflower Cordial, in the restaurant you could have an Elderflower Cordial as well or one of our cocktails – The Hugo (a blend of Elderflower and Cava) or indeed try our new Elderflower Sorbet!
The gardens are at their absolute prime now the Roses have started blooming. The borders are beautiful and Philippa has picked some stunning bunches which you can collect in the shop.
The only negative this week is that we will not be open at all this Sunday – both the restaurant and the cafe will be shut. I have another operation and we are so stretched staff wise that we have reluctantly taken the decision to close for the day.
The whole team look forward to greeting you again tomorrow and again, firing on all cylinders, from next Wednesday
