On Saturday 29th February we look forward to welcoming Qian Janice Wang, Assistant Professor of Food Science at Aarhus University in Denmark who will host a tutored wine tasting with matching dinner.
Qian is an assistant professor in Food Science at Aarhus University, Denmark. Previously, she completed her PhD and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Crossmodal Research Lab at the University of Oxford. Her research examines crossmodal correspondences involved in flavour perception, with on a special focus on how sound can modify and enhance the way we perceive food and drink. Her work spans psychological experiments, technological enhancements, and multisensory installations.
A keen lover of wine, Janice was the two-time President of the Oxford University Blind Tasting Society. She has led the Oxford team twice to victory in the Oxford-Cambridge varsity blind tasting match as well as various university wine-tasting competitions in Europe. She is a certified WSET educator and holds the WSET Diploma (pass with Distinction).
The evening will kick off with a chance to meet Qian from 7pm – the tasting will run in three phases with two wines served with each course of dinner. Janice will guide us through a blind tasting of each of the wines and gather feedback. The aim is to help us understand the language we use to describes wines and how this affects our perceptions of their taste. Janice is hoping that everyone is able to give live feedback via their phones so that she can compile the comments during the evening!
The wines served on the evening are all provided by our favourite wine merchant, Vinceremos. We think Janice has chosen some of their tastiest offerings though, being a blind tasting, we can’t tell you in advance what they are! These and other Vinceremos wines will be available on the evening and anyone who orders a case on the night will benefit from a 20% discount!
The cost for the evening is £40 and, as ever, tickets are available at the farm from David or Simon. Additionally, you can now buy tickets direct from Eventbrite by following this link.
Even if its cold and wet again this weekend, a quick wander round the glasshouses confirms that Spring is on the way. Here are our first flowers of the season. These Muscari will be on sale in the shop this weekend.
So it seems a perfect time to publish our own Spring Calendar. We’ll send out emails prior to each event as usual but we know you’ll be wanting to get some of these dates in your diaries:
