Last weekend’s warmth and sunshine may have departed but there is still more than a hint of Spring in the air. We have more flowers this weekend with Anemones and wonderfully-scented Grape Hyacinth by the bunch. The Iris Reticulata are making a great display of iridescent blue as the first potted bulbs to flower but there are many others to follow…
Spring must be just around the corner when the first Jersey Royals arrive. Why not pair these with some sweet new season peas from Italy and serve with an oven-roasted Plaice? A lovely supper with contrasting textures and bright, complimentary flavours. For dessert, perhaps a rhubarb fool? Pink Yorkshire Rhubarb poached with a little grated ginger, mixed through thick cream and chilled – a perfect end to a lovely meal.
From Cornwall this week we have some large Haddock fillets, Sardines for grilling, Whole Plaice, Fal Native Oysters and Farmed Scallops.
For those coming to the farm, remember we are serving takeaway Coffees, Teas and Hot Chocolate. Why not grab a cup with a cookie or a slice of cake and have a wander round the garden? If the weather’s half way decent, there’s plenty to see – lots of work going on in the main flower beds with new plants, tree pruning and an attempt to tame the bindweed and couch grass! You’ll also be able to see the tulips growing quite strongly now the days are lengthening – we are really excited to see the many wonderful new varieties as they emerge over the next 3-6 weeks.
We hope to see you over the coming week.
