Autumn or Summer? Perhaps both in the same weekend!

There’s never certainty but it looks as though this could be a bumper year for wild fungus. Last weekend we had the first foraged food of the autumn with young, fresh and very local Chicken of the Woods (above) served alongside delicious Giant Puffball! Two treats from the fields and woods within a few miles of the farm – many thanks to those who brought them in! As ever, there’s a free meal for all successful foragers! We also took delivery of the year’s first game with 3 young fallow deer. The fillets and steaks were a real treat last weekend and we are all looking forward to tasting the sticky ribs on the menu over the next couple of days.

Great seafood from Cornwall again this weekend with Hen Crabs, Grilled Mackerel, Oven-Roast Lemon Sole and our first Rock Oysters of the year.

In the shop, late summer fruits predominate with many varieties of plum, pears and apples now available.
