Lobster and Crab Galore

So summer sun remains somewhat elusive!

The nightshades – tomatoes, peppers and aubergines – are all growing healthily and setting lots of fruits but for the most part they remain green and unripe!  Even the potatoes – also members of the nightshade family – are running behind their normal schedule – we hope to pick the first of our season next week.

We can’t switch to a full summer menu then but we are happy to “make do” with lots of salads, greens and fresh herbs and, of course more seafood up from Cornwall.  Now that Wimbledon and the Lords Test are in the past, there is suddenly plenty of fresh Cornish Lobster on the market and we are delighted to take a share on your behalf!  So Lobsters join Crab, Plaice and Monkfish on the menu in the restaurant this week.

Of course the warm, and not infrequently, wet weather is a boon for Philippa and her team of gardeners.  The borders are lush, generous, green and colourful and that’s even before the Dahlias burst into bloom over the next week or two.

The whole team look forward to greeting you over the weekend – tables are still available for lunch today or tomorrow and for dinner this evening.
