Hard to believe Wednesday has come round so soon but here we go again!
Most exciting news this week is that our friends at The Cornish Shellfish Company are back in action. East winds permitting, they hope to put lobster and crab pots down for the first time since January at the end of this week. With luck, we’ll be able to offer live lobster and crab in the shop next weekend! For now, they’ve secured some day-boat fish landed at Newlyn and we will have glistening fresh fillets of hake and haddock and whole red mullet and flounder this weekend. Details are in the online shop where you can pre-order for collection on Friday or Saturday.
As well as more of the new season’s Jersey Royals, we are delighted to be able to offer Organic English Asparagus – the first of the season, sweet and succulent and a perfect indulgence after all the root vegetables of winter!
Other seasonal treats fresh from our own greenhouses include:
- Delicious, crisp red radishes
- Spring Onions
- Endive (Castelfranco). Slightly bitter, crisp and fleshy, the leaves make a delicious refreshing basis for a salad.
- Pakchoi
- Tatsoi
- Cime de Rapa – Broccoli Raab – a very tasty stir fry green
- The last of our winter spinach – large, sweet, green leaves!
We are also lucky to have secured another delivery of fresh, organic flour from Shipton Mill. Bags of flour will be available again online and anyone who needs more starter to continue baking delicious breads and pastries at home, just leave a note on the order form and I will add a pot to your order – its free as long as you promise to post photos of your efforts on Instagram!
From the bakery, we are delighted to offer Lemon and Polenta cake (GF) as a new addition this week. For anyone who didn’t manage to get some Chocolate and Ginger cake (GF) last week, I will also be making this again.

The farm will be open as usual on Friday and Saturday so you are welcome to come to the shop and buy your fruit, vegetables and bread in the normal way. For those who can make it, there will be a slightly broader range of produce available including our delicious salads, some soft fruit and berries and the wonderful cheeses we source from both The Netherlands and Westcombe Dairy in Somerset
Of course we all have to adhere to strict social distancing rules:
- Everyone will need to sanitize their hands before coming into the shop
- Only one customer in the shop at any time
- The queue (if we’re busy) will be spaced at 2m intervals (we’ll set out chairs to make this more comfortable!)
- No cash payments will be accepted – only cards
Please note that the shop will not be open on Sunday this week. We will be offering Click and Collect or Delivery options only on Sunday. We anticipate being fairly low on stock again by the end of Saturday so to avoid disappointment, we will be re-publishing a detailed stock list on Saturday evening to allow you to place online orders whether for morning Click and Collect or afternoon delivery.
We hope you are all keeping well and look forward seeing you or speaking to you at some point over the weekend.
