More and more wonderful tulips this week. The greenhouse flowers are now at their peak with fiery and voluptuous colours complementing the earlier pastels. Flowers will be available as single stems for you to mix and match or as bunches in a range of sizes. Such a tonic to lift the spirits and with such promise for the summer ahead, we believe everyone should have a bunch! To make it easier for you to gift the flowers to a friend or family member to cheer them up, we will reimburse any delivery charge with a voucher against a future shop!
For anyone lucky enough to have had some of the Wild Cornish Mussels last week, you already know how good they are at the moment! We have lots more arriving on Thursday morning and thoroughly recommend them either to buy on their own or as part of the Thai Mussels Ingredient Box. There will also be Squid, Sardines, Monkfish and Oysters.
If you’ve visited the farm recently, you will have seen that the major renovations to the main flower borders are nearing completion – work is now moving to the Herb Garden. We are very lucky to have two lovely and extremely gifted gardeners helping with our redesign. Anna Benn is a longtime friend of the farm, garden designer and Chelsea medallist who has been working with us for over a year rejuvenating the flower borders and filling the planters with wonderful bulbs including the stunning tulips. For the last couple of months we have also been very lucky to have the inspirational Johnny Bruce working at the farm. Johnny has an exceptional CV having trained at Great Dixter and then worked at the legendary De Hessenhof nursery in The Netherlands. Currently working at Prospect Cottage, Derek Jarman’s former home and garden in Dungeness, we have been very fortunate that Johnny has been able to spend time with us – the whole team has learned a huge amount. It will be exciting to see how the borders develop though late Spring and into the Summer.
As ever we will be delighted to welcome you this week either to shop or to have a coffee and cake and to wonder round the gardens. If you visit during the week, you may even get the chance to have a chat with one of our gardeners.
We hope to see you over the next few days.
