After a glorious, almost balmy, weekend when lots of you got to enjoy leisurely lunches outdoors in the sun, the chill mornings this week leave no doubt that Autumn is upon us!. Although there may be a few summer vegetables still clinging on in the glasshouses, we really are at the end of summer. We served the last of our homegrown aubergine, courgettes and padrons last weekend and its time to edge towards our autumn menu.
First and perhaps foremost of the autumn delights is our Tarte Tatin. Slightly tart, juicy apple bathed in caramelised toffee sitting on a crisp puff pastry base – toffee apple for grown-ups! Perfect on its own but why not try it with a scoop of jersey cream or indeed our home-made double vanilla ice cream? Of course, it also goes very well with a small glass of Calvados – not from our own apples but we are looking at the feasibility of making our own cider brandy in the future!
Crabs from Cornwall again this weekend – they are in their prime at the moment and we are sourcing as many as we can. They will be on the menu two ways – cooked whole crab for you to pick yourself with rye toasts and mayonnaise or dressed, Thai-spiced and served on sourdough toast. In addition, we will have lots of juicy Scallops, Lemon Sole, Plaice and meltingly soft Cuttlefish braised slowly in its own ink and served on crispy polenta.
We look forward to welcoming you over the coming days
